IPMA certification; four levels, testing both hard and soft skills.

Proof of expertise and experience.

Certification is an important step in the development of an organisation. It is a step we often take after a professionalisation programme, as a confirmation of the things learnt and as proof of expertise. A company may choose certification for various reasons. Some organisations want a uniform, measurable standard so that all employees use the same methods, while others may use certification to prove that their employees meet visible and independent criteria.

IPMA

IPMA stands for International Project Management Association: a global organisation with national associations focusing on the further professionalisation of businesses in all sectors.

In addition to organising a variety of activities, certification on four different levels is an important part of what IPMA does. The basis for this system is the Individual Competence Baseline, which describes 28 competencies for project managers.

IPMA distinguishes itself from other types of certification, such as PRINCE2 and PMP, in that it also tests soft skills. In addition, IPMA utilises a written exam as well as practical assessments for the three highest levels.

What can IPMA certification do for you?

The reasons for choosing to pursue IPMA certification are varied. Participants have shared with us, for example, the following motivations:

  • Increasing my expertise and reflecting on my experience as a project manager;
  • Expanding my CV;
  • Developing a benchmark relative to project managers of other companies and sectors;
  • Gaining professional and international acknowledgement of my status as a project manager;
  • Establishing a firm foundation for further personal development and practical application in my projects.
  • Contributing to the further professionalisation of project management and better predictability of projects.
